We Are In The Business Of Healing

Be Safe This Holiday Season

| Dec 11, 2015 | Personal Injury

The wintertime in Ohio means bundling up from the snow’s chill outside and celebrating the holidays with friends, family, coworkers, and sometimes even total strangers. The beauty of the season, however, can quickly be dampened by hazards cropping up in unexpected places. To keep you and the ones you love safe as the temperature drops, take a look at these commonplace winter dangers and how to prevent them:

  1. Car accidents: First and foremost, the roads are sure to get icy and coated in snow. Everyone on the streets needs to be absolutely careful and prepared for slicks and slides. Drive slower than you normally would, give other drivers more space than you think is necessary, and only drive when the trip is necessary.
  2. Fire hazards: Festive decorations usually consist of two things, either lights or conifers. Trouble really arises when the two are combined. If you have a Christmas tree or holiday wreath in your home, do not let it sit near bright holiday lights or open flame.
  3. Uncontrolled crowds: Each year, there is news of someone being trampled or shoved during a holiday sale rush and sustaining serious personal injuries, sometimes even as severe as brain or spinal injuries that affect them for the rest of their lives. Stay clear of large masses of shoppers – no discount is worth your health – and consider filing a premises liability case if you are injured due to trouble the property controller should have foreseen and prevented.
  4. Illnesses: Last but not least on our list, the common cold and flu bug makes an appearance. Holidays usually mean intermingling with people from both far and wide. While they may bring joy, they also bring foreign sicknesses unknowingly. If you know you usually get quite ill when exposed to new people, the winter might be the time to invest in a bottle of hand sanitizer and mittens.
