Route 80 Bus Crash in NJ Results in One Death & 21 Injured

In late January, one person died and at least 21 other people suffered injuries—including one in critical condition and two people who were seriously injured—in collision involving a tour bus and three cars on Route 80 in Parsippany, NJ. Brianna Herrera, a 21-year-old Syracuse senior, was identified as the person who was killed in the multi-car accident. A few days after the accident, a vigil where over 1,000 mourners gathered was held on her college campus. The bus belonging to Adirondack Bus Lines was headed toward New York City, where the young woman was supposed to visit family in Queens. Adirondack Trailways, which is based in Hurley, NY, operates a network of bus routes in the New York State area, consisting of 58 bus operators and 53 vehicles. Over the past couple of years, the bus carrier has been involved in two accidents. According to records from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), one crash led to an unspecified injury, while another one which ended in the bus being towed. Last May, the carrier received a safety compliance review from the FMCSA. Adirondack Transit Lines was given a satisfactory rating.
