20 Sick or Hospitalized After Unidentified E. coli Outbreak

| Mar 15, 2019 | Personal Injury

Public health investigators have not been able to identify the source of a recent E. coli outbreak which has sickened at least 20 Kentuckians. The Kentucky Department for Public Health suspects some sort of food distribution is to blame for this life-threatening outbreak. Both children and adults have been impacted by the illness and 6 people have been hospitalized so far. E. coli is more than just food poisoning as it can very quickly escalate into severe health consequences, even death. State health commissioner Dr. Jeff Howard advises those affected to seek immediate treatment so as to not risk serious consequences. “Exposure to E. coli bacteria can be debilitating and potentially life-threatening, especially for small children and individuals with weakened immune systems,” he advised. The particular strain of E. coli in this outbreak produces a very dangerous toxin and necessitates medical attention.
