Where Pedestrian Crashes Happen
Pedestrians get hurt in many places. Most crashes happen in crosswalks or while crossing a street. Parking lots also see many car-versus-person impacts. Sidewalks are not always safe, either. Drivers sometimes jump a curb or drift. Rural roads without sidewalks are risky as well. You face traffic with little room to step away.

Pedestrian Right Of Way In Ohio: When To Yield?
Ohio law sets clear rules. If you cross anywhere other than a crosswalk or an unmarked crosswalk at a corner, you must let traffic go first. If there is a tunnel or footbridge, you must use it or yield to cars. Between signalized corners, you may only cross inside a marked crosswalk. You cannot cross a corner diagonally unless signs say you can. Even so, drivers must still use care and try to avoid people in the road. Violations can lead to misdemeanors, and repeat offenses within a year can raise the charge.
Ohio Pedestrian Sidewalk Rules
When a sidewalk exists and you can use it, you must stay off the roadway. If there is no sidewalk, you should walk on the shoulder and keep as far from traffic as you can. If there is no shoulder, walk at the edge. On two-way roads, face oncoming traffic on the left. If you must walk in the roadway, you must yield to vehicles unless other rules apply. Violations can bring misdemeanor charges, with higher penalties for repeat offenses within a year.
